Dear Attorneys,

There is a lot of talk about children going back to school, even if only for a short while, in the Fall. I am extremely hesitant to send my kids back to school in the midst of the public health crisis. However, my ex is adamant that the kids go back to get “a sense of normalcy.” What do I do if we don’t see eye to eye soon?

Teaching from Home

Dear Teaching,

We completely understand your concern.  It is one that a lot of parents are facing right now. If you and your co-parent can’t come to an agreement about schooling, and you have joint legal custody, you may need to have the court weigh in, or at least seek the assistance of a co-parenting counselor. However, with the courts still not operating at full capacity, you may not get a hearing in time to address that. The school year is approaching fast, so now might be the time to seek a mediator to help you and your co-parent reach an agreement.

A mediator is a neutral third party, usually an attorney, that will help you negotiate an agreement regarding any outstanding issues. If that issue is facilitating home schooling, virtual schooling, or finding a safe way to go back to school, then the mediator will work with both of you together and help you to reach an agreement. A mediator has generally undergone thorough training and become certified to handle matters just like yours.

Do you want to hire a mediator that will make your vital matter easier, not harder? Wolf & Shore Law Group is the firm for you! Attorneys Kristen Wolf & Shari-Lynn Cuomo Shore will work tirelessly to mediate your issues and assist you in coming to a comprehensive agreement.
