Adoption in Connecticut
How Do I Adopt My Foster Child?
Adopting is one of the most wonderful things a foster parent can do for the children in their care. It provides permanency, a sense of stability, and gives a child in need a true family. When you foster a child in DCF care, you may find yourself wanting to adopt. While not all child protection/DCF matters result in adoption obviously, it is certainly something to consider if you are a long-term foster care placement.
Adopting through the Department of Children and Families (DCF) is different than the private adoption process. This is because DCF needs to recommend adoption, and file a “permanency plan” with the court indicating such is in the best interest of the minor children, once the children’s parents have their rights terminated.
