Guardianship Application

What Is A Guardianship Application?

A guardianship application is filled out and filed with the probate court. There are several different types of guardianship petitions. There are removal of guardianship petitions which is typically a third party asking that parents be removed as guardians of a child and that the third party be made guardian (whether that be temporary or permanent is up to them), applications for sole guardianship where one parent would typically ask that they become sole guardian of their children and that the other parent be removed, and temporary guardianship petitions, which can be used should a parent (or parents) of a child be unable to care for them temporarily (i.e. deployed in the military).
