For some, starting the new year is not the celebration to which so many of us have become accustomed. In fact, many people will start their 2021 being served with divorce papers.
January is unofficially known as “divorce month.” The holidays are over, the kids got their Christmas, and now everyone is ready to move on with their lives and start fresh.
Often, the pressures and disappointments of the year have reached a boiling point, and spouses who have been considering divorce as an option are ready to move forward. It may not sound like the greatest way to start a new year, but we generally see that our clients are far happier once their divorce is finalized because they feel like they have regained their freedom. While we understand that divorce is often a difficult and bumpy road, the feedback that we usually receive is that they are ultimately relieved to leave their toxic relationship and start anew.
If you, like so many others, find yourself in the midst of divorce after the holidays do not panic! You may have just been handed a new lease life. You can focus on yourself, and if you have children, you can focus more on them instead of constantly trying to mend your irretrievably broken relationship. Keep in mind that just because you are getting a divorce, it does not mean that you have to fight with your ex-spouse. You can use this as an opportunity to grow, become good co-parents, and learn how to move on as separate parental units of one family.
With all of those things to think about and adjust to, the entire divorce process probably seems a bit overwhelming. Don’t let that ruin your new year, either!
