It’s that time of year again! Time for what, you ask? To update your parenting plan!

Our office warns parents every year that the time to modify your current parenting arrangement before the next school year is now. Often, once your child goes back to school, you find yourself facing new co-parenting challenges. As your kids get older, their laundry list of activities changes, and that means that parenting time and obligations may also need to be modified.

Another common issue that arises is the cost of back to school clothing, school supplies, and costs associated with sports and other extracurricular activities. If your current parenting plan does not address how (or if) these costs are handled, that may become a point of contention if both co-parents are not on the same page.

The point here is this: your kids grow up, and your parenting plan needs to grow with them. What worked when they were younger may no longer b practical. It’s even more frustrating if your co-parent does not want to work with you to find a solution.

The current health crisis is also still concerning to parents, who are unsure what “school” will look like this fall. Many parents may need to deal with “distance learning” while juggling their own jobs and, for any after-school programs that are open, there are concerns that the costs of such will increase due to new precautions that need to be taken.
