Dear Attorneys,
I am pretty positive that my husband has been hiding money away, and now he is not disclosing it in our divorce! I have no idea what to do, but it is really weighing on me. What are my options?
Sincerely,
Missing Cash
Dear Cash,
That is a common concern in any divorce, so know that you are not alone! There are a few ways to find out if someone is hiding money (among other things) during a divorce.
Your first step should be to hire an attorney to help you navigate this process. An experienced divorce attorney will know what to request and where to look for discrepancies.
The next step would be to compile as much financial documentation as possible and then very thoroughly analyze it. At Wolf & Shore, we “comb through” every transaction, every deduction on paystubs, we look at W2 forms and various itemizations there and on tax returns. However, if we need to “dig deeper,” we can always request a forensic accounting. If you need a confidential consultation to go into more detail, please do not hesitate to contact us at 203.745.3151 or info@wolfandshorelaw.com.
Very Truly Yours,
