Pioneering Women in Law
The legal profession has been shaped by many courageous women who refused to accept the status quo. Some of the most influential include:
- Arabella Mansfield (1846-1911) – The first woman admitted to practice law in the United States in 1869, opening doors for future generations.
- Belva Ann Lockwood (1830-1917) – The first woman to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court and an advocate for women’s suffrage.
- Sandra Day O’Connor (1930-2023) – The first female justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, serving from 1981 to 2006.
- Ruth Bader Ginsburg (1933-2020) – A champion for gender equality and a key figure in landmark cases that advanced women’s rights.
