Dear Attorneys,

What kind of communication should I expect from my attorney? Is it better to communicate via phone or email? Do we meet in person? How frequently should I expect contact?

Sincerely,

Nervous Nelly

Dear Nelly,

This is a very common question, and nothing to be nervous about! Every attorney (and every law firm) is different. So when you do a consultation with an attorney, you may want to ask him or her what their preferred method of communication is. That way, if you have a preference, you can decide from the outset if the firm is a good fit for you. The same can be said for communication frequency. Some law firms communicate frequently and proactively, and others are only responsive when clients reach out. If you ask these questions up front, you will get a good idea as to how the law firm operates.

At Wolf & Shore Law Group, we work remotely. That means that we rarely do in person meetings or consultations. We do not have an office where someone can just “drop by.” That works for us, but it doesn’t work for everyone. Every so often, a client does need something in person, and we are happy to accommodate such a request. However, our standard methods of communication are phone, email, or virtual meetings via Google Meet or Microsoft Teams. We also have procedures in place for routine “check-ins” with clients. Some clients do choose to opt out of this routine follow up, and that’s okay as well. We always think it’s important to discuss these aspects with potential (and new) clients and make sure we are on the same page.

Not every law firm is a good fit for every client, and vice versa. The attorney-client relationship is important, and we always tell our potential clients that they will be the happiest with someone that they can trust and build a good rapport with. We hope you find an attorney that is the perfect fit for you!
